Spanish tennis player Rafael Godar has claimed the title of the 40th Hassan II Tennis Trophy held in Marrakech, following a strong performance in the final that signifies a new chapter in his professional journey. The tournament took place from March 30 to April 5 at the prestigious Royal Tennis Club of Marrakech, drawing attention from tennis enthusiasts around the world.
Godar, currently ranked 89th globally, secured his victory against Argentine player Marco Tranquiliti with a decisive score of 6-3, 6-2, thus succeeding Italian Luciano Darderi, the champion of the previous edition. From the onset of the match, Godar exhibited complete control, allowing his opponent only limited opportunities, and concluded the encounter, which lasted just over an hour, with a compelling and assertive display of skill.
While Tranquiliti fell short in the finals, his journey through the tournament was remarkable, especially considering he advanced from the qualifiers. In the semifinals, Godar had previously defeated Argentine Camilo Ogo Carabelli in straight sets, while Tranquiliti reached the final after a victory over top seed Darderi.
In the doubles competition, the American duo of Robert Cash and James Tracy emerged victorious, defeating Bart Stevens and Vasil Kirilov to claim the title. In a post-match press statement, Godar emphasized that this achievement is the result of persistent effort and signifies a fresh start in his career, expressing his ambition to continue evolving and achieve even better results in the future.
This 40th edition of the tournament, organized under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, featured numerous prominent players from the global tennis scene, including Talon Griekspoor, Corentin Moutet, and Thomas Machac. The Hassan II Tennis Trophy is recognized as the only tournament in Africa that is part of the ATP 250 series, annually attracting a select group of tennis stars.
