Record-Breaking Moroccan Cucumber Exports to Germany Continue

Moroccan Cucumber Exports Surge to New Heights

According to a recent analysis by EastFruit, Moroccan cucumber exports to Germany are experiencing unprecedented growth, setting new records for the 2025/26 season. From July 2025 to March 2026, Germany imported an impressive 3,900 tons of cucumbers from Morocco, valued at over 8 million euros. This marks a remarkable 10% increase compared to the previous season and a staggering 28-fold increase from the 2021/22 season.

The demand for Moroccan cucumbers has reached a year-round high among German buyers, with peak demand occurring between November and February. December 2025 stood out as the strongest month, with imports nearly hitting the 1,000-ton mark, according to market analysts.

Shifts in the European Cucumber Market

While Spain and the Netherlands remain Germany's primary suppliers, collectively accounting for more than 80% of imports, Morocco's official market share has seen a significant increase from 0.5% in the previous season to 0.8% in the first nine months of the 2025/26 season. However, it is important to note that actual export volumes are likely even higher, as Spain imports Moroccan cucumbers and subsequently re-exports them across Europe, including to Germany. This notable rise in direct shipments indicates a structural transformation in Morocco's export strategy, allowing Moroccan exporters to strengthen their direct presence in Northern European markets by bypassing traditional European distribution hubs.
