Renault to Launch Hybrid Dacia Sandero Production in Morocco

Renault's Strategic Shift Towards Electrification in Morocco

Starting in September, Renault's factories in Morocco will begin producing the hybrid version of the Dacia Sandero, marking a significant strategic shift towards the electrification of the national automotive industry. Mohamed Bachiri, the General Director of Renault Group Morocco, shared insights during a special program on Medi1 TV, celebrating the Throne Festival. He stated, "Our internal processes are already prepared to accommodate electrified vehicles," highlighting the readiness of Moroccan industrial platforms for the technological transformations within the sector.

This transition has already begun, as Bachiri noted, "In Tangier, we started manufacturing hybrid vehicles in 2025, particularly the hybrid Jogger." The introduction of the hybrid Sandero continues this progressive electrification trend, reinforcing Morocco's position as a key player in the automotive landscape.

The Dacia Sandero: A Central Figure in Morocco's Automotive Success

As a flagship model of Dacia, the Sandero is pivotal to this transformation. It achieved remarkable commercial success, becoming the best-selling car in Europe in 2025, with 289,295 units sold. This achievement underscores the industrial experience of Morocco, as most vehicles destined for the European market are manufactured within the Kingdom, primarily in Tangier and at SOMACA in Casablanca. Bachiri emphasized, "The Sandero, the most sold vehicle to individuals in Europe, is a model made in Morocco," showcasing the country's vital role in the international automotive value chain.

The introduction of the hybrid version of this iconic model will further solidify Morocco's position in the sector. Bachiri confirmed, "We have already started adapting our processes to this evolution," referring to a controlled and anticipated industrial transformation.

Beyond its industrial infrastructure, Morocco has another significant advantage: an increasingly decarbonized energy sector. Bachiri stated, "We have a clean energy sector that enables us to reduce the carbon footprint of our industrial processes, benefiting both manufacturers and the entire ecosystem." This alignment between the automotive industry and energy transition enhances Morocco's competitiveness in a global context characterized by the rapid acceleration of electrification.

For Dacia, this evolution fits into a broader global electrification strategy. The brand plans to offer hybrid or electric versions of all its models by 2026, in addition to launching a new electric utility vehicle and enhancing its offerings in higher segments, particularly with hybrid engines for the Duster and the Bigster.
