As part of the ongoing reforms aimed at overhauling the national healthcare system, Amine Tehraoui, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, alongside Said Amzazi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, convened a meeting to discuss the ambitious project for the reconstruction of the Hassan II Regional Hospital in Agadir. This initiative represents a pivotal step in enhancing the healthcare offerings within the region, especially considering that this facility, established in 1961, has become increasingly inadequate in meeting the demands of modern healthcare services, particularly regarding infrastructure and patient care quality.
The reconstruction project aims to establish a state-of-the-art hospital that adheres to current standards, featuring an enhanced bed capacity and cutting-edge medical equipment. This new-generation regional hospital will be constructed on the same site and will consist of four levels, accommodating between 415 and 450 beds. Additionally, it will include advanced medical facilities and will focus on developing and strengthening emergency services (SAMU) as well as oncology services. With a budget of approximately 1.1 billion dirhams allocated for this project, it is expected to significantly improve the quality of healthcare services available to local citizens.
To facilitate the commencement of reconstruction works, the hospital will be temporarily closed starting from the end of March 2026. The ministry is committed to ensuring the continuity of healthcare services during this transition period. A patient orientation system has been implemented, which involves mobilizing all healthcare structures in the region to maintain service continuity under optimal conditions, in a coordinated and secure manner.
Moreover, a reorganization and reassignment of healthcare human resources will take place within the regional framework, while fully safeguarding their rights. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reaffirms that these measures are essential for the successful realization of the modern hospital reconstruction project, which aims to meet the expectations of the Souss-Massa residents and contribute to the overall enhancement of healthcare service quality.
The ministry also extends its gratitude to citizens for their understanding and cooperation, while reiterating its commitment to ensuring that healthcare services continue in the best possible conditions throughout this period.
