Revitalization Efforts for Jemaa El-Fnaa Square

On June 12, 2026, Shakir Zahwan, the General Director of the "Al Omrane - Marrakech-Asfi" company, announced that the renovation works for Jemaa El-Fnaa Square are approaching completion. This project is part of an initiative aimed at enhancing one of Morocco's most iconic heritage sites, ensuring its cultural, historical, and tourist significance is preserved while improving visitor experiences. During a site visit organized by Al Omrane, Zahwan highlighted the project's goals, which are centered on improving visitor reception and the overall utilization of the square.

The renovation program includes several key components designed to rejuvenate the square and its surroundings. These components involve the rehabilitation of the square's spaces, the revamping of the "Ares de Belk" garden, reorganization of traffic flow and pedestrian pathways, and the establishment of designated areas for horse-drawn carriage stations. Additionally, a new tourist information kiosk and public restrooms that meet accessibility standards will be constructed.

Zahwan emphasized that the project also encompasses the reorganization of various activities and equipment related to the cultural and tourist animation of the square. The ultimate aim is to enhance the functionality of this symbolic space while maintaining its authenticity and central role in the cultural and tourist appeal of the Red City of Marrakech.
