Roller Disco Takes Center Stage in Morocco with Martine Patine and the French Institute

Experience the Excitement of Roller Disco in Morocco

From June 20 to June 27, 2026, the dynamic collective Martine Patine will embark on a vibrant tour across five Moroccan cities, including Tangier, Kenitra, Rabat-Salé, Casablanca, and Agadir. This exciting initiative is part of the cultural season 2025-2026 organized by the French Institute of Morocco, themed "J-Lioum, Here and Now," which focuses on youth engagement and cultural expression.

The project celebrates roller dance, a captivating art form rooted in the roller disco culture that emerged during the 1970s and gained immense popularity in the 1980s. The collective, featuring an array of DJs and performers, offers public sessions where music, dance, and roller skating converge, creating an electrifying atmosphere for participants of all ages.

Each stop on the tour will include interactive formats, providing opportunities for attendees to learn roller dance, regardless of their skill level, starting from age seven. Participants can look forward to artistic performances and DJ sets infused with disco, house, and groove influences. These engaging events will last approximately four hours and will provide all necessary equipment for those wishing to join in on the fun.

Promoting Sustainable Urban Mobility

Beyond the excitement of the festivities, the collective aims to convey a vital message: "moving around the city without polluting has become a necessity." Roller skating is presented not only as a recreational activity but also as a sustainable mode of transportation that promotes physical fitness and enhances the use of public spaces, similar to the benefits of cycling.

Organizers emphasize that these events will foster community interaction and collective participation in public spaces, which will be temporarily transformed into venues for practice and artistic expression. Importantly, all sessions will be free and accessible to everyone, ensuring that the joy of roller disco can be shared widely.

The schedule for the events is as follows:

  • Tangier: Saturday, June 20 at 5 PM, Cour of the French Institute
  • Kenitra: Sunday, June 21 at 4 PM, Grand Park of Mehdia
  • Rabat-Salé: Tuesday, June 23 at 5 PM, Cirque Shems’y in Salé
  • Casablanca: Thursday, June 25 at 4 PM, Anfa Park (in partnership with AUDA)
  • Agadir: Saturday, June 27 at 6 PM, Urban Park Al Inbiaat
