Royal Air Maroc Expands Flight Services
In an exciting development for travelers, Royal Air Maroc has officially confirmed the launch of flights connecting Casablanca, Morocco, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, starting in 2027. This announcement was made during a press trip in North Africa, which highlighted the airline's commitment to enhancing its services in the region. Additionally, the airline revealed plans to increase its frequency on the Casablanca–São Paulo route from four to five flights per week, reflecting a strategic expansion of its operations in Brazil.
Royal Air Maroc previously provided services to Rio de Janeiro's Galeão International Airport until the early 1990s when the route was suspended. The airline rekindled its presence in Brazil in 2013 with flights from Casablanca to São Paulo, although operations were halted again in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following a gradual resumption, the airline restarted its flights in 2024 with three weekly services, which increased to four by December 2025.
Othman Baba, the regional director for Latin America at Royal Air Maroc, had indicated during the World Travel Market (WTM) Latin America trade fair earlier this year that the airline aimed to broaden its operations within Brazil and specifically launch flights to Rio de Janeiro. However, Baba emphasized that expanding the São Paulo route was a prerequisite for this new endeavor, as it serves as the central hub for Royal Air Maroc's activities in the country.
The flights to Brazil are operated using Boeing 787 aircraft, recognized for their modernity and efficiency. Baba reported that the average occupancy rate is an impressive 80%, with leisure travelers making up 90% of passengers, indicating a strong demand for travel between these vibrant destinations.
