Clarification from Royal Air Maroc Regarding Flydubai Incident
On October 3, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) issued a statement denying claims that a co-pilot involved in a recent incident on a Flydubai flight had ever been employed by the airline. The statement clarified that the individual had only undergone a theoretical training program lasting three months in 2025 at RAM, which did not result in recruitment. This training was described as a preliminary step before a potential hiring process, which ultimately did not materialize, as the candidate's application was not accepted after the training concluded.
This clarification follows a serious incident that occurred on September 30 during Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Reports from Emirati authorities indicated that the co-pilot attempted to assault the captain with an emergency axe while trying to seize control of the aircraft. Fortunately, the flight was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely without any further issues. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
