Royal Air Maroc Expands European Cargo Network
Royal Air Maroc has made significant strides in enhancing its service offerings by launching four new routes to various European destinations. This strategic expansion aims to bolster the airline's belly cargo capacity, thereby strengthening freight connections between Europe and Africa through the bustling hub of Casablanca. The newly introduced destinations include Bilbao and Alicante in Spain, Verona in Italy, and Lille in France, all of which are expected to facilitate increased cargo flows in both directions.
The airline's operations on these routes, primarily utilizing Boeing 737 aircraft, allow for the transport of up to three tonnes of cargo per flight. This capability not only supports Royal Air Maroc's long-haul passenger and freighter network but also integrates seamlessly with its existing services. By tapping into these key European markets, the airline seeks to combine passenger demand with enhanced freight capacity, thereby catering to regional trade and the needs of the Moroccan diaspora.
With the addition of Bilbao, Royal Air Maroc now boasts four destinations in Spain, complementing its existing services to Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville. Alicante, a gateway to the popular Costa Blanca region, serves a substantial Moroccan community, further solidifying the airline's commitment to serving its clientele. Meanwhile, the addition of Verona marks the airline's eighth Italian destination, joining a robust list that includes major cities like Rome and Milan. Lille, on the other hand, is set to increase cargo capacity from northern France while also addressing the needs of the region's Moroccan diaspora.
Rita Chraibi, the vice-president of cargo at Royal Air Maroc, emphasized the airline's strategic role as a vital gateway into Africa. She stated that the focus remains on connecting high-potential regional markets in Europe that can sustain consistent point-to-point demand, enhancing cargo flows through Casablanca to various destinations across Africa and beyond, including the Americas and Asia. Chraibi also noted that while competition exists among carriers focusing primarily on leisure travel, Royal Air Maroc distinguishes itself through its ability to provide exceptional cargo services across a diverse range of commodities.
The new routes are designed to support both import and export activities, thereby increasing the operational efficiency of the airline's expanding international network. With improved flight frequencies, greater flexibility, and more appealing transit times, Royal Air Maroc aims to position itself as a leader in the cargo sector.
Currently, Royal Air Maroc Cargo serves over 81 destinations worldwide and continues to fortify Casablanca's position as a logistics hub between Europe and Africa. This expansion is expected to facilitate the movement of various cargo types, including industrial goods and pharmaceuticals, across the airline's international network. As reported by aviationbusinessnews.com.
