Royal Air Maroc Projects Significant Growth with 7.5 Million Passengers in 2025

Royal Air Maroc: A Key Player in Africa's Aviation Sector

Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco's national airline, is poised for a substantial rebound in the aviation sector, projecting to carry approximately 7.5 million passengers by the end of 2025. This growth follows a remarkable recovery from the challenges posed by the global health crisis that severely impacted air travel. In 2024 alone, RAM successfully transported 7.2 million passengers, and with revenues nearing 20 billion dirhams, the airline is reclaiming its pivotal role in not just Morocco's economy but also in connecting emerging markets across Africa.

The airline's operations are centered around its Casablanca hub, which serves as a strategic link between Africa, Europe, and the Americas. According to Ilham Kassimi, the Commercial Division Director at Royal Air Maroc, Casablanca functions as a critical African capital with connections to roughly thirty cities across the continent. Passengers can now enjoy a plethora of travel options, with RAM offering at least one daily flight to most destinations, and in some cases, up to 14 flights per week. This flexibility enhances intra-African travel and connects Morocco with other nations, further stimulating tourism and business travel.

Expanding the Fleet and Enhancing Connectivity

As part of its ambitious expansion strategy, RAM aims to increase its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037, reinforcing its long-haul routes and bolstering South-South connectivity. This growth trajectory aligns with the extensive infrastructure projects currently in progress in Morocco, aimed at preparing the country for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The airline's expansion is not only about increasing capacity but also about improving the overall connectivity of African nations to global destinations through its partnerships within the Oneworld alliance.

Royal Air Maroc’s commitment to enhancing travel options is evident in its extensive network, which currently includes 29 African cities serviced by direct flights. The airline is determined to fortify its presence on the continent, ensuring that it not only maintains existing routes but also increases flight frequencies. This strategic vision is crucial for establishing Casablanca as a major hub in Africa, fostering economic integration, and promoting intra-African trade.

In summary, Royal Air Maroc is not just reviving its operations post-pandemic but is also setting a robust framework for future growth that will significantly contribute to Morocco's economic landscape and strengthen its position within the African aviation market.
