Royal Air Maroc Suspends Routes Amid Rising Fuel Costs

Temporary Suspension of Routes by Royal Air Maroc

In response to the soaring fuel prices, Royal Air Maroc has announced the temporary suspension of several routes to alleviate financial pressures. This decision affects multiple African routes originating from Casablanca, as well as those departing from Tangier and Marrakech, including the key connections to Brussels.

The airline is taking these measures to mitigate the financial ramifications stemming from the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Despite Royal Air Maroc's expertise in servicing a wide range of West African destinations from Casablanca, a significant number of these routes will be temporarily halted. Specifically, this includes flights to Douala via Bangui, as well as connections to Kinshasa, Brazzaville, Yaoundé (also linked with Douala), and Libreville. Ultimately, this suspension impacts six out of the airline's 28 West African destinations.

Additional route suspensions include flights from Tangier to Malaga and Barcelona, along with services from Marrakech to Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille, and Brussels, with the latter being scheduled twice weekly. The decision to halt these routes is driven by increased operational costs due to escalating fuel prices, compounded by a decline in passenger demand. The resumption of these routes will be contingent upon market conditions and fuel price stabilization.
