Royal Moroccan and British Navies Conduct Joint Diving Exercise

Enhancing Naval Cooperation Through Joint Training

The Royal Moroccan Navy recently collaborated with the British Royal Navy in a two-day joint diving exercise designed to bolster the operational capabilities and cooperation between the two maritime forces. This significant training event took place at the Ksar Sghir Naval Base and Tangier Marina, involving personnel from HMS Dagger and the Gibraltar Clearance Diving Element. The exercise commenced with a visit from Moroccan divers aboard HMS Dagger, where British crews demonstrated their advanced diving equipment and operational capabilities.

On the second day, the focus shifted to a practical joint search-and-rescue operation. Divers from both navies engaged in a simulated rescue scenario, employing specialized sonar technology to locate a missing person. Chief Petty Officer Roberts, who leads the Gibraltar Diving Element, emphasized that this exercise was an excellent opportunity for Moroccan personnel to enhance their skills and familiarize themselves with new diving equipment. The collaborative training not only reinforced the skills developed in previous exercises but also fostered stronger relationships between the two nations' naval forces.

The visit concluded with discussions on future cooperation initiatives, including the potential for hosting Royal Moroccan Navy personnel in Gibraltar, further cementing the partnership between these two navies. The exercise wrapped up with naval maneuvers involving the Royal Moroccan Navy's patrol vessel GC-133, showcasing the operational readiness of both forces before the British units returned to Gibraltar.
