RSSB Tigers Set to Compete in BAL Quarterfinals
The RSSB Tigers are gearing up for an exciting showdown against Morocco's FUS Rabat in the quarterfinals of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) playoffs. This highly anticipated matchup is scheduled to take place from May 22 to May 31 at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. After a competitive conference stage, eight teams have qualified for the playoffs, and the stakes are high as the teams prepare for the knockout phase.
In the playoff structure, teams were seeded based on their performance during the conference rounds, with the top teams facing off against lower-ranked opponents. Notably, four teams achieved impressive 4-1 records, necessitating a ranking based on points scored to determine the exact placements. Leading the standings is Petro de Luanda from Angola, followed closely by Egypt’s Al Ahly, with the RSSB Tigers proudly holding the third position.
Anticipating a Tough Challenge
The playoff format features pairings that pit teams against each other based on their seeds: 1 against 8, 2 against 7, 3 against 6, and 4 against 5. This means the RSSB Tigers and FUS Rabat will face each other twice, with the aggregate score determining who advances to the semifinals. Head coach Henry Mwinuka of the Tigers has expressed his expectations for a challenging contest, emphasizing the need for his team to prepare intensively. "We have to prepare with intensity," he stated, highlighting the support the team has received from the Ministry of Sports, the federation, RSSB, and the nation as a whole. Mwinuka is determined to lead his team to victory, stating, "I want to win."
