Rubiales Rejects Political Parties' Demands Regarding Morocco

Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has stirred the political pot once again with his recent remarks regarding the demands of the political parties Sumar and Podemos. These parties have called for Spain to sever ties with Morocco in the organization of the 2030 World Cup, a move Rubiales describes as opportunistic and misguided. He asserts that these political factions represent "marginal parties" attempting to gain relevance by capitalizing on current events, particularly the recent migration crisis linked to the Moroccan regime.

In an interview with Radio Marca, Rubiales expressed his discontent with the way the situation has been managed, emphasizing that if Spain is not allowed to host the final match, the country should withdraw from the tournament entirely. He directed sharp criticism towards both Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, whom he holds responsible for the organizational crisis that threatens Spain's position in the World Cup. Rubiales remarked that the political parties have been silent on the Moroccan candidacy for years, only to now voice their concerns as a way to gain political traction.

Rubiales made it clear that he views the criticisms from Yolanda Díaz, a leader within Sumar, as hypocritical. He recounted how Díaz initially dismissed the capabilities of the Spanish coaches before the national team won the men’s World Cup, only to later re-approach the topic with claims of "weaving the second star" for the team’s achievements. This inconsistency, according to Rubiales, reflects a deeper issue of political opportunism rather than genuine concern for the national interest.

He concluded by asserting that such political entities do not represent the majority of the Spanish population, pointing out their low levels of public support, which he estimates to be around 5-10%. By framing their actions as desperate attempts to remain relevant, Rubiales has positioned himself firmly against their rhetoric concerning Morocco, accusing them of lacking thorough understanding and credibility.
