Rubicon Water Awarded Contract for Béni Moussa Irrigation Modernization
Rubicon Water, a prominent player in water management technology, has secured a significant role in a major irrigation modernization initiative in Morocco’s Tadla region. The company’s technology solutions, valued at approximately A$12 million, were selected as part of a joint bid that passed through rigorous administrative, technical, and financial evaluations mandated by Morocco's official public procurement framework. This strategic collaboration involves both Spanish and Moroccan partners and is expected to culminate in a formal contract execution following a statutory 15-day period for appeals under Moroccan tender regulations.
The Béni Moussa irrigation perimeter encompasses about 69,600 hectares of irrigated land, with a focus on transitioning from traditional gravity irrigation methods to more efficient, pressurized drip irrigation systems. Already, approximately 27,000 hectares have been converted or are in the process of conversion. Rubicon’s advanced technology aims to enhance the stability, accuracy, and responsiveness of water delivery across the main canal network, thus supporting ongoing irrigation investments and facilitating a broader shift toward pressurized irrigation practices.
This modernization effort will incorporate Rubicon’s Total Channel Control technology, automated canal regulation gates, and communications infrastructure, along with the NeuroFlo software platform. This setup will ensure real-time monitoring and autonomous control of water flows and canal levels. The existing infrastructure has been operational since the 1950s, and Rubicon’s contributions will be pivotal in upgrading these systems through a contractual arrangement with its partners.
Impact and Future Prospects
Upon finalization, the Tadla contract will represent Rubicon Water's largest project to date within the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. It will also stand as the second-largest contract the company has secured outside of Australia. Rubicon's CEO, Bruce Rodgerson, expressed enthusiasm regarding the selection of the joint venture bid, highlighting that this landmark project in Morocco aligns with the company's strategic goals. The Tadla project is one of several critical opportunities identified, with a collective value of A$47 million, as indicated in Rubicon’s financial presentations for FY26.
