Rwanda's Amavubi Team Heads to Marrakech for Friendly Matches Against Comoros and Tanzania

Amavubi's Preparations for Upcoming Friendlies

The national football team of Rwanda, known as Amavubi, has embarked on a significant journey to Morocco for a comprehensive 10-day training camp based in Marrakech. This preparatory phase is crucial as the team gears up to engage in two international friendly matches against their counterparts from Comoros and Tanzania. The delegation departed from Kigali on Monday, utilizing Ethiopian Airlines, with an expected arrival time in Morocco set for noon on Tuesday.

Under the guidance of head coach Stephen Constantine, the squad is composed of 23 players, including three goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders, and five forwards. These friendlies are strategic components of Rwanda's preparations as they aim to enhance their performance ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Match Schedule and Team Insights

Amavubi's friendlies are scheduled to take place on June 6, when they will face Comoros, followed by a match against Tanzania on June 9, both hosted in Morocco. Coach Constantine plans to utilize these fixtures as an opportunity to evaluate the team's dynamics and refine their tactical approach in anticipation of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign. Notably, this tournament will see participation from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda as joint hosts.

Rwanda's team has been grouped in Group K, where they will compete against Mali, Cape Verde, and Liberia. The squad that reported for training includes players from both local clubs and those who have recently concluded their seasons abroad. Notable inclusions in the traveling squad are Rayon Sports goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera, Zira FK defender Ange Mutsinzi, and APR FC players Jean Gilbert Byiringiro, Clément Niyigena, and Yunusu Nshimiyimana, among others.

This preparation phase is essential for the players to build chemistry and strengthen their skills as they look forward to a challenging and competitive qualifying campaign.
