Ryanair's New Routes to Morocco
At the beginning of this year, Ryanair launched a new direct flight from Nuremberg Airport to Morocco, marking the introduction of a significant travel route. According to the airline, Morocco is its fastest-growing and most important market. In the spring of 2026, the airline started offering direct flights twice a week to the capital city of Rabat. Now, as part of the winter flight schedule, Nuremberg will also gain direct service to the southern city of Agadir, with flights scheduled every Monday and Saturday beginning in October.
The Impact of Tourism in Agadir
While the expansion of travel options is promising, it presents challenges for Morocco itself. The tourism industry is thriving, especially around the port city of Agadir, where the influx of visitors is shifting towards smaller coastal villages. In fact, in these once quaint fishing towns, German has become one of the most commonly spoken languages, highlighting the significant influence of European tourists.
Surfers discovered this area several years ago, turning it from a hidden gem into a popular destination. However, this surge in popularity has not gone unnoticed by the Moroccan royal family. A documentary by _ARTE_ reveals that heavy machinery is demolishing many traditional houses in the Agadir region, displacing local residents and erasing entire town centers in a matter of weeks. Officially, the justification for these demolitions is that the houses were illegally occupied or built without proper permits. Nevertheless, according to _ARTE_, this is merely a superficial rationale, as it appears that the land is being appropriated for even larger construction projects along the coast, further fueling mass tourism.
