The low-cost airline Ryanair has officially launched a new direct flight connection from Nuremberg, marking the return of Morocco to the airline's flight schedule after a significant hiatus. With the onset of the Bavarian Easter holidays, Nuremberg Airport has transitioned to its summer flight plan, anticipating a surge in passenger numbers during the holiday season. Notably, Mallorca remains the top destination for travelers.
As of Friday, April 3, 2026, Ryanair has commenced its inaugural flights linking the Franconian airport with Rabat, the capital of Morocco. This new route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. Rabat is distinguished as one of the four imperial cities in the North African nation, featuring a captivating blend of historical and contemporary architecture. Visitors can expect to see whitewashed buildings, palm-lined boulevards, and centuries-old kasbahs. The medina, characterized by narrow alleyways and bustling souk markets, along with nearby beach resorts, offers an appealing combination of urban exploration and beach relaxation.
For Nuremberg, this new connection signifies Morocco's return to its flight offerings. As noted by the Albrecht Dürer Airport in a recent press release, regular flights to Marrakech were available until early 2020, while the coastal city of Agadir had not seen consistent service in over ten years. Michael Hupe, the airport's managing director, emphasizes that Rabat is a destination that complements their network by combining cultural and modern elements. He states, "This exciting combination will be a new discovery for many of our passengers," as he promotes the newly established direct flight.
Marcel Pouchain Meyer, Ryanair's Country Manager for the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), highlighted the potential in Nuremberg while also expressing concerns regarding the economic conditions for airlines in Germany. He pointed out that the German market remains at only 89% of pre-crisis levels, with exorbitant location costs continuing to hinder further investments. For the summer flight schedule, Ryanair is offering a total of 21 destinations from Nuremberg, focusing primarily on Spain, Italy, and Greece.
In other news, Turkish holiday airline Corendon Airlines has stationed a second aircraft in Nuremberg and has recently partnered with football World Champion Lukas Podolski.
