Upcoming Edition of Salon Halieutis Set for January 2027
The highly anticipated 8th edition of Salon Halieutis is scheduled to take place in Agadir from January 27 to January 31, 2027. This decision was confirmed during the board meeting of the Salon Halieutis association, which convened in late April 2026 at the headquarters of the Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries. The theme for this upcoming event will revolve around food sovereignty, focusing on the challenges associated with sustainable management of marine resources. This direction aligns with the growing global emphasis on preserving ecosystems and ensuring the sustainability of fishing activities, which have become strategic priorities in recent years.
A Sector in Transformation
The previous edition of Salon Halieutis highlighted the significant strides made in the fisheries sector, underpinned by substantial investments in research, regulations, and infrastructure over recent years. This trend is further reinforced by a notable increase in private investments, with approximately 930 million dirhams allocated in 2023 for the enhancement and transformation of seafood products. This marks a considerable rise compared to the prior year and has facilitated the modernization of equipment and the introduction of innovative technologies.
The fisheries sector plays a crucial role in Morocco’s economy, generating over 260,000 direct jobs across various domains, including commercial fishing, processing industries, and aquaculture. When considering indirect employment, this sector supports millions of livelihoods, particularly for coastal communities heavily reliant on artisanal fishing, which serves as an economic backbone for these areas. The Salon Halieutis, therefore, not only represents a key event for industry stakeholders but also underscores the importance of sustainable practices that benefit both the economy and the environment.
