US Military Personnel Missing During African Lion 2026 Exercise
In a concerning development, two American soldiers participating in the international military exercise known as "African Lion 2026" have gone missing in southern Morocco. This announcement was made by both the Moroccan army and the United States Africa Command (Africom) on Sunday, following the soldiers' disappearance on Saturday evening. The incident occurred near a cliff at Cap Draa, within the Tan-Tan region, at approximately 10 PM local time.
The 22nd edition of this joint military exercise, which is organized by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) of Morocco in collaboration with the US military, officially commenced on Monday in Agadir, a city located in southern Morocco. The Moroccan army has confirmed that extensive search and rescue operations are currently underway, involving coordinated efforts from Moroccan, American, and other participating forces. These operations incorporate land, air, and maritime assets to locate the missing soldiers.
Africom has stated that an investigation has been initiated to uncover the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the two service members. The exercise, which is set to conclude on May 8, involves nearly 5,000 military personnel from over 40 countries, along with experts in security and defense.
