International Military Exercise Faces Challenge with Missing Soldiers
Since April, the international military exercise "African Lion 2026" has been taking place in Morocco. However, the event has been overshadowed by a concerning incident involving two missing US soldiers. Both military personnel were reported missing during the exercise, prompting a large-scale search operation. The disappearance of these soldiers has raised significant concerns among the participating forces.
According to reports from the US Army and the Moroccan military, the two soldiers went missing on Saturday evening in the southern region of Morocco. The Moroccan Armed Forces shared information via their official Facebook page, indicating that the soldiers disappeared near a cliff at Cap Draa, in the Tan-Tan region. Consequently, a coordinated search effort has been launched, involving not only Moroccan and US troops but also other forces participating in the exercise. This comprehensive search operation is utilizing ground, aerial, and naval units in an attempt to locate the missing personnel.
The Stuttgart-based US Army Africa Command (Africom) has confirmed the disappearance and is currently investigating the situation. Efforts to find the missing soldiers are ongoing as the military exercise continues. "African Lion 2026" commenced at the end of April in Agadir, a southern Moroccan city, and is set to last until May 8. The exercise involves nearly 5,000 military personnel from over 40 countries, highlighting the scale and international cooperation involved in this significant military event.
