Sébastien Ogier Steps Back from the 2027 Rally Monte Carlo

In a significant shift for the world of rallying, Sébastien Ogier, a ten-time winner of the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally, will not participate in the event in 2027. This marks the first time in 16 years that the French driver, renowned for his exceptional skills behind the wheel, will be absent from this iconic rally. Furthermore, it is anticipated that Ogier will participate in far fewer races throughout the 2027 season, signaling a transition in his racing career. Since 2021, Ogier has not completed a full season in the World Rally Championship (WRC), although he managed to secure his ninth world championship title in 2025 despite skipping three events that season.

Ogier's participation has been selective, as he regularly entered more than half of the races. In his first part-time season in 2022, he competed in six out of the 13 rallies. This year, he continued to show his prowess by competing in the Monte Carlo Rally, which was considered a quasi-home event for him, as he hails from Gap in the southern French Alps. The Monte Carlo Rally is set to take place from January 21 to 24, 2027, and Ogier's absence will be felt by fans and competitors alike.

Family Comes First: Ogier Reduces His Racing Schedule

At 42 years old, Ogier has expressed that his decision to step back from full-time racing is rooted in family commitments. He has emphasized the importance of supporting his wife, Andrea Kaiser, who has been a steadfast supporter throughout their marriage and particularly during the last decade since the birth of their son. Ogier candidly stated, "The likelihood of fighting for the championship title again is very low at this point in time," reflecting a realistic approach to his future in the sport. His focus on family, coupled with a reduced racing schedule, showcases a new chapter in the life of one of rallying's most iconic figures.
