Major Drug Bust: Four Quintals of Processed Cannabis Seized
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Algerian National People's Army has successfully intercepted and seized a substantial quantity of processed cannabis originating from Morocco. During operations conducted between March 4 and March 10, 2026, military units achieved notable successes in combating terrorism, organized crime, and illegal immigration. According to an official statement from the Ministry of Defense, an individual identified as "D.B," also known as "Musab," surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, carrying an AK-47 assault rifle, ammunition, and various other items.
In addition to the arrest of Musab, four accomplices supporting terrorist groups were apprehended during separate operations across the nation. Furthermore, the military confiscated an AK-47 submachine gun, seven rounds for an RPG-7 rocket launcher, and other materials in the Tamanghasset military sector of the sixth military region. In the realm of drug enforcement, military patrols arrested 29 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 4 quintals and 38 kilograms of processed cannabis across the Moroccan border. Additionally, they seized an impressive 1,061,685 narcotic pills.
Authorities also detained 212 individuals in various locations, including Tamanghasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Ain Salah, and In Guezzam, while confiscating 43 vehicles, 77 generators, 47 jackhammers, and three metal detection devices. Significant quantities of raw gold and stones, as well as equipment used for illegal gold mining, were also discovered. In a separate operation, 12 more individuals were arrested, leading to the recovery of three submachine guns, one automatic pistol, two hunting rifles, 21,925 liters of fuel, and six quintals of tobacco.
In efforts to address illegal immigration, coast guard patrols prevented various illegal crossing attempts and rescued 122 people from makeshift boats. Additionally, 475 illegal migrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the nation, highlighting the extensive measures being taken to tackle these pressing issues.
