Significant Drug Bust in Algeria
This week, the operational services of the national police in Algeria successfully dismantled the operations of two organized networks involved in drug trafficking, primarily active in the western regions of the country. According to an official statement released on Thursday, authorities seized a total of 136 kilograms of processed cannabis, with the product being traced back to Morocco. Four individuals were arrested during this operation.
The first operation was conducted by members of the regional anti-drug trafficking unit in Béchar, where they thwarted an attempt to smuggle a shipment of cannabis weighing 79.25 kilograms from Morocco. This led to the apprehension of three members of the criminal network, and authorities recovered a sum of 365 million Algerian dinars, which was identified as proceeds from illicit activities. Meanwhile, the second operation, executed by the mobile judicial police in Sidi Belabbès, resulted in the seizure of an additional 57 kilograms of processed cannabis. This operation effectively disrupted the criminal activities of the organized network, leading to the arrest of another member and the confiscation of a vehicle used for transporting the narcotics.
Following their arrests, the suspects were presented before the public prosecutor at the courts of Béchar and Sidi Belabbès, as legal proceedings commenced against them.
