Major Drug Seizure in Algeria

This week, Algerian national security forces successfully dismantled the operational structure of two organized networks involved in drug trafficking in the western region of the country. During these operations, authorities seized a significant quantity of cannabis, amounting to 1 quintal and 36 kilograms, which originated from Morocco. Four individuals were arrested in connection with this illicit activity, as detailed in a statement released by the security services on Thursday.

The first operation was executed by the regional anti-drug trafficking unit in Béchar, where efforts resulted in thwarting an attempt to smuggle a shipment of processed cannabis weighing 79 kilograms and 250 grams. This operation led to the arrest of three members of the criminal network, along with the recovery of 365 million Algerian dinars in cash, derived from their illicit earnings. In a separate but related operation conducted by the mobile police unit in Sidi Belabbès, officers seized an additional 57 kilograms of processed cannabis. This operation effectively neutralized the criminal activities of this organized network and resulted in the arrest of one of its members, as well as the confiscation of a vehicle used for transporting these narcotics.

The detained suspects have been presented to the respective public prosecutors at the courts in Béchar and Sidi Belabbès for further legal proceedings. These actions underscore the ongoing commitment of Algerian law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and maintain public safety.
