Major Drug Trafficking Operations Foiled
The National Defense Ministry announced the successful interception of 38 drug traffickers and the seizure of a significant quantity of cannabis, totaling one quintal and 23 kilograms, during operations along the border with Morocco. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Algerian authorities to combat drug trafficking and maintain security along its borders.
Comprehensive Military Operations Yield Significant Results
In a report released today, it was noted that authorities also confiscated 1.3 kilograms of cocaine and 458,623 tablets of narcotics during military operations conducted nationwide. The operational results from August 19 to 25, 2026, indicate that the Algerian People's National Army detained 173 individuals, seized 23 vehicles, 97 generators, and 64 hydraulic hammers. Additionally, quantities of raw gold and associated equipment used in illicit mining activities were confiscated in regions such as Tamanrasset, Barge Baji Mokhtar, and In Guezzam. Furthermore, seven more individuals were apprehended, with authorities recovering two machine guns, three hunting rifles, 3,400 liters of fuel, and three tons of food items intended for smuggling during various operations.
Coast Guards also played a crucial role in thwarting illegal immigration attempts along the national coast, rescuing 38 individuals aboard makeshift boats and detaining 323 irregular migrants of various nationalities across the country. These measures reflect the commitment of Algerian authorities to uphold law and order and protect its borders against illegal activities.
