Morocco Faces Rising Temperatures and Thunderstorms

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) in Morocco, a significant heatwave is anticipated to impact various provinces, with temperatures soaring between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius. This extreme weather is expected to persist from Friday through Sunday, particularly affecting the provinces of Taroudant, Oued E-Dahab, Es-Semara, Boujdour, Laayoune, and Aousserd. The DGM has issued an orange-level weather alert, signaling residents to prepare for uncomfortable conditions.

In addition to the rising heat, forecasts also predict thunderstorms that could bring rainfall ranging from 20 to 30 millimeters, accompanied by hail and strong winds. The storms are likely to strike provinces including Al Haouz, Ifrane, Azilal, and Rehamna, with the potential for severe weather occurring from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the same day. Other regions such as Boulemane, Marrakech, El Kelaa Sraghna, Khenifra, Chichaoua, and Sefrou will similarly experience harsh weather conditions.

Moreover, the DGM has warned that temperatures could rise even higher in southern provinces, reaching between 36 and 42 degrees Celsius over the weekend, with additional thunderstorms expected to deliver 20 to 25 millimeters of rainfall in provinces like Taourirt, Al Haouz, Tata, Guercif, Sefrou, and Boulemane. This combination of heat and precipitation illustrates the unpredictable and extreme nature of Morocco's weather patterns during this period.
