Severe Heatwave Warning in Morocco
The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an urgent orange alert regarding an intense heatwave expected to affect various provinces across the kingdom. This alert, which is effective from today until Tuesday, August 4, 2026, highlights that several southern regions will be particularly impacted, with temperatures soaring between 45°C and 47°C in areas such as Wadi Gold, Assa-Zag, Smara, Tata, Taroudant, Zagora, Rachidia, Oussred, and Boujdour.
In addition to these extreme temperatures, the forecast indicates that the thermometer will reach between 42°C and 45°C in other provinces, including Marrakech, Beni Mellal, Fkih Ben Saleh, and Qalaat Sraghna during the same period. Another orange alert has been issued for several regions, predicting temperatures between 42°C and 45°C in places such as Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane, Larache, Youssoufia, Khénifra, Taourirt, Berkane, Settat, Chichaoua, Guelmim, Taza, Al-Aaiun, Dakhla, Wadi Gold, and Oussred.
Moreover, temperatures are expected to range from 39°C to 42°C in regions like Sidi Bennour, Choukka Ait Baha, Inzikan Ait Melloul, Mediouna, Safi, Tiznit, Essaouira, Driouch, Nador, and Oujda Angad. This weather pattern is attributed to the hot air masses moving from the southeast and south, leading to a significant rise in temperatures across several inland and southern areas of Morocco.
