Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Hail Forecasted
Morocco is bracing for inclement weather today, as thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds are anticipated across numerous provinces. The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a weather alert warning residents of potential thunderstorms and significant rainfall, estimating accumulations of 20 to 30 millimeters.
The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist until 4 p.m. in regions including Errachidia, Midelt, Boulemane, Guercif, Figuig, and Taourirt. Additional provinces such as Ifrane, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Kelaat Sraghna, Tata, and Ouarzazate should prepare for similar weather patterns from noon until midnight. Moreover, cities like Taroudant, Tinghir, Zagora, Khouribga, Settat, Essaouira, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Azilal, Beni Mellal, and Fquih Ben Salah are also on alert for thunderstorms.
Temperature Fluctuations and Seasonal Changes
In contrast to the previous weeks, when temperatures soared to a sweltering 29 degrees Celsius, Morocco is currently witnessing a cool down. Weather forecasts indicate foggy conditions with temperatures ranging between 19 and 25 degrees Celsius in the capital, Rabat. These cooler conditions are expected to continue through Monday; however, a rise in temperatures to between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius is predicted for Tuesday, maintaining similar levels through Thursday.
It is important to note that while weather applications are providing these forecasts, the predictions remain unverified and can be subject to change based on evolving weather conditions. Earlier this month, the DGM highlighted that the summer of 2026 was among the warmest seasons the country has faced in recent decades, ranking as the eighth hottest summer since 1981. The summer of 2023 notably marked the hottest recorded, with an average temperature anomaly of 1.92 degrees Celsius.
During the June to August period, every month experienced above-average temperatures, with June recording an anomaly of 0.97°C, July showing a 1.37°C increase, and August closing with temperatures 0.89°C higher than the 1991–2020 average.
