Weather Alert: Intense Thunderstorms and Snowfall Predicted

The Ministry of Equipment and Water has issued an updated weather alert (Alert No. 78/2026), indicating that various regions across Morocco will experience turbulent weather conditions characterized by intense thunderstorms and significant snowfall. This alert is in effect for Friday and Saturday, with an orange alert level indicating the severity of the expected weather events.

According to the ministry's announcement, powerful thunderstorms, occasionally accompanied by hail, are expected on Friday, April 10, from 2 PM to 11 PM. The affected regions include the provinces of Meknes, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Sefrou, Boulemane, Taza, Taounate, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Wazan, Larache, and Tetouan, with anticipated precipitation levels ranging from 25 to 35 mm.

Furthermore, the adverse weather conditions are predicted to persist through the early hours of Saturday, April 11, from 2 AM until 8 PM, affecting areas such as Figuig, Jerada, Tawrirt, Oujda, Berkane, and Nador. In terms of snowfall, the alert specifies that snow accumulation could reach between 10 to 20 centimeters in mountainous regions exceeding 1800 meters starting from Saturday, April 11, through Sunday, April 12, particularly in the provinces of Ifrane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khénifra, Midelt, and Al Haouz.

The Ministry of Equipment and Water urges citizens to exercise caution, particularly those traveling on mountainous roads, and to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts issued by the relevant authorities.
