Severe Weather Conditions Across Morocco This Weekend
As we approach the weekend, several regions of Morocco are bracing for a dramatic shift in weather patterns, characterized by severe thunderstorms and an intense heat wave. The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange alert due to the anticipated severe weather phenomena that will persist throughout the week, culminating in particularly hazardous conditions on Saturday.
Throughout the week, thunderstorms are expected to roll through various provinces, potentially accompanied by hail and strong winds. Rainfall accumulations are projected to range between 20 and 35 mm in provinces including Al Hoceima, Boulemane, Driouch, Rehamna, Figuig, Chichaoua, Jerada, Al Haouz, El Kelâa des Sraghna, Taroudant, Marrakech, Taza, Taourirt, and Guercif. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant as localized thunderstorms can lead to sudden and intense rainfall.
Simultaneously, a significant heat wave will affect several southern provinces of the Kingdom until Saturday, with temperatures soaring between 45 °C and 48 °C in areas such as Aousserd, Oued Eddahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, and Tata. Additionally, regions like Laâyoune, Tan-Tan, and Guelmim will experience high temperatures ranging from 42 °C to 45 °C on Thursday and Friday. The DGM advises that these conditions pose serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
In light of these extreme weather forecasts, the DGM strongly urges residents to take necessary precautions, remain informed about weather updates, and stay safe during this tumultuous weather period.
