Strengthening Religious Ties Between Morocco and Ethiopia
Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa, the President of Ethiopia's Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has expressed his appreciation for Morocco's significant contributions to fostering religious cooperation with Ethiopia. In a recent meeting held in Addis Ababa on Saturday, Sheikh Tufa engaged with a delegation from the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema, which was led by Othman Skalli Houssaini, the Foundation's financial director. During this fruitful discussion, Sheikh Tufa emphasized the Kingdom of Morocco's dedicated efforts to promote the values of tolerance as advocated by Islam, particularly highlighting the influential role of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who serves as the Commander of the Faithful, in championing these ideals.
Sheikh Tufa took the opportunity to reflect on the rich historical connections that bind Morocco and Ethiopia, stressing the importance of the cooperation agreements that were established in January between the Supreme Council, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, and the Mohammed VI Foundation. These agreements signify a commitment to enhancing religious collaboration and mutual understanding.
Commitment to Peace and Stability in Africa
Othman Skalli Houssaini reaffirmed the Foundation's dedication to actively working alongside the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs to strengthen spiritual security and promote core values of peace, security, and stability across the African continent. He also highlighted the Foundation's mission to safeguard the religious heritage of Africa while training local scholars (oulema) to instill the principles of moderation and to advocate for peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.
The meeting underscored the critical need for implementing the previously signed agreements, particularly those related to ongoing education programs, the organization of religious events, and the effective management of religious affairs. These initiatives aim to address societal needs while promoting values of moderation and balance, aligning with the enlightened vision set forth by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who is also the President of the Foundation. The collaborative efforts between Morocco and Ethiopia mark a significant step towards nurturing a harmonious religious landscape in the region.
