Significant Resignations Shake Up National Rally of Independents in Marrakech

Political Turmoil in Marrakech Ahead of Upcoming Elections

According to various sources close to the situation, two significant members have officially resigned from Morocco's National Rally of Independents (RNI) party on April 20 and 21, 2026. This unexpected move is anticipated to disrupt the party's dynamics within the Manara electoral district as the region gears up for forthcoming elections.

These resignations are not from ordinary members; they involve prominent figures who participated actively in the last election, running on the list of Abdel Rahim Al-Amim in the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali municipality. One of the resigning members holds considerable weight in the political landscape, having served as the campaign manager for the RNI in the Manara district. His departure thus carries significant political implications in one of the party's strongholds within the city.

In his resignation letter addressed to the party's president, he expressed his pride in being part of the RNI during the past years and his efforts to contribute to its goals. However, he asserted that the current circumstances necessitate his withdrawal from active party involvement, while reiterating his respect and appreciation for the party's leadership and its members.

Additionally, he justified his decision by referencing a broad conviction, directly pointing to the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali municipality as a part of his reasoning for stepping down. This remark opens the door to interpretations regarding the organizational structure of the party in that area, a sentiment echoed by the other resigning candidate.

Both resignations have been formalized through signatures and approval by a judicial commissioner, occurring at a critical time as the local political scene prepares for the upcoming elections. The departure of members who previously contested elections, alongside the campaign director in the Manara district, raises questions about the cohesion of the party's grassroots organization and its ability to maintain its balance in a region considered one of its cornerstones in Marrakech.

As of now, there has been no official comment from the RNI's regional or local coordination in Marrakech regarding these developments, leaving many to speculate on the potential ramifications for the electoral landscape in the city in the coming days.
