Sira Rego Highlights Morocco's Responsibility in Minor Migration Issues
In a recent statement, Sira Rego, the Minister of Youth and Childhood, emphasized the critical need for Morocco to respond to over 600 unresolved migration cases involving minors. These cases pertain to unprocessed applications linked to previous migration incidents, and as per the Public Prosecutor's Office, Morocco currently holds these pending files without providing any feedback or resolution. Rego pointed out that the ongoing migration crisis in Ceuta cannot be overlooked, as approximately 80,000 individuals would not have moved without Morocco's awareness of the circumstances. Her remarks suggest a pressing need to reassess the current migration model, which she describes as a failure due to its reliance on outsourcing border control responsibilities. This scenario has prompted her to call for a thorough investigation into the events that led to the current state of affairs, particularly concerning the treatment and processing of unaccompanied minors seeking refuge.
