Police Apprehend Six Suspects Linked to Fatal Assault
On August 2, 2026, at 11:50 AM, the Laayoune Security Directorate announced that its anti-gang unit, in collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, has successfully detained six individuals, including a minor, aged between 17 and 38 years. They are suspected of being involved in a case related to intentional assault resulting in death, as well as participation in a crime and failing to report it, alongside public intoxication.
According to security sources, the Laayoune authorities initiated a judicial investigation in the early hours of July 27, following the discovery of a girl's body inside a bag beside the Oued Sakia el Hamra river. The investigation, which included field research and technical expertise conducted at the crime scene and around the victim, allowed investigators to identify and apprehend the suspects sequentially.
Initial findings suggest that a dispute arose between the primary suspect and the victim during a drinking session that included the arrested individuals. This disagreement escalated into a physical assault that ultimately led to the victim's death. Subsequently, the victim's body was transported in a light vehicle to the banks of the Oued Sakia el Hamra, where it was disposed of.
The adult suspects are currently under judicial detention, while the minor has been placed in a facility designated for juveniles. This is part of the ongoing investigation aimed at clarifying the criminal actions attributed to each individual. Meanwhile, efforts continue to locate the vehicle's driver and anyone else suspected of being involved in this case.
