Socialist Union Finalizes Regional Candidates Amid Party Resignations
The Political Bureau of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces has unanimously approved the results of the committees responsible for selecting the candidates for the party's regional lists, in preparation for the legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. In a statement following the meeting held on August 22, the party clarified that the approval was based on the provisions of its statutory regulations and internal laws, as well as the legal frameworks governing the electoral process. This followed the completion of various stages of the specific procedures adopted by the party for managing nominations.
The statement noted that the procedure, which was announced and published for the benefit of all party members and the national public, did not face any objections before the selection committees, which finalized the candidates during their meeting on August 20.
In this context, the Political Bureau praised the role played by the party organizations and local candidate representatives throughout the process, commending what it described as the "brotherly spirit" shown by the party members in response to the nomination results. On a separate note, the bureau announced the acceptance of Regaja Al-Baqali's resignation and the consequences of this decision, along with the withdrawal of Mariam Jamal Al-Idrisi from the party due to her disagreement with the committee's results and the criteria used in the nomination process, as stated in the announcement.
The party accused Mariam Jamal Al-Idrisi of disregarding the established procedures and results, promoting what it called "false allegations" that undermine the credibility of the party's institutions, along with serious accusations that violate the values, principles, laws, and regulations of the Socialist Union. In this regard, the Political Bureau confirmed that the party reserves the right to resort to judicial action concerning her statements if these actions are deemed criminal under the law.
In conclusion, the Political Bureau extended its greetings to all the female candidates who participated in the regional nominations, emphasizing that their non-selection does not diminish their role within the party. The bureau urged them to continue their mobilization and contribute to the formation of lists and support the candidates of the Socialist Union in the upcoming legislative elections. It also called upon all party members to unite their efforts and support the party candidates during the electoral campaign to enhance the presence of the Socialist Union and achieve results that will allow it to occupy its deserved position in the upcoming political and parliamentary landscape.
