Spain's Diplomatic Efforts on Migrant Returns
In a recent meeting between Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and the President of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, significant discussions took place regarding the return of thousands of individuals who have entered the autonomous city irregularly. During this meeting, Albares emphasized Spain's firm commitment to ensure that every person who entered irregularly will be returned to Morocco. This initiative comes in light of a substantial influx of around 80,000 individuals who crossed into Spain via the Tarajal pier on July 30. Albares stressed that the joint diplomatic efforts have been instrumental in addressing the acute phase of the crisis "in record time." He reiterated the importance of unity among Spaniards and Europeans in supporting Ceuta, calling for increased involvement and solidarity from the European Union. The minister also criticized the politicization of the crisis by certain European countries, who he claimed have used the situation for their own ideological purposes. Albares made it clear that both Ceuta and Melilla play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the Schengen area, which allows for free movement within Europe.
