Calls for Declassification of Pegasus Reports by Spain's Popular Party
The Popular Party (PP) of Spain has once again called for the declassification of reports related to the alleged espionage operation conducted using the Pegasus software against members of the Spanish government. The party posits that there could be underlying reasons prompting Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to exhibit a submissive stance towards Morocco, urging the government to enhance transparency in this matter.
Ester Muñoz, the PP spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies, articulated these suspicions while highlighting what she perceives as a significant shift in the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) stance towards Morocco. This shift, according to Muñoz, became apparent following the hacking incident involving mobile phones. In an interview with RNE radio, as reported by Europa Press, she stated, "What the government must do, to eliminate any suspicion or doubt, is to be transparent and declassify all these documents."
Muñoz criticized the government for altering its foreign policy without parliamentary debate and questioned Sánchez's cautious approach in dealing with Morocco, especially when juxtaposed with his treatment of the Spanish monarchy. Furthermore, she dismissed claims of a so-called "interplanetary conspiracy" linking Israel, the United States, and the Pegasus scandal, a theory notably defended by Gabriel Rufián, spokesperson for the Catalan Republican Left (ERC).
