Spanish Government Addresses Ceuta Migration Concerns
The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, is set to convene an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council on Tuesday, to discuss the ongoing immigration crisis affecting the occupied city of Ceuta. This meeting comes about a month after a significant influx of undocumented migrants has been recorded in the region, prompting urgent discussions about the implications of this situation.
According to the Spanish newspaper "ABC", Sánchez has called for this high-level advisory body, which specializes in national security issues, to gather just ahead of the first Cabinet meeting following the summer break. Notably, the meeting will also feature the participation of Ceuta’s local government leader, Juan Vivas, through video conferencing.
Discussions during this meeting are expected to focus on the risks and challenges associated with the current situation in Ceuta, as the government and local authorities strive to manage the repercussions of the immigration crisis. A number of key ministers and officials will be in attendance, including those responsible for defense, interior, foreign affairs, justice, and health, alongside the Director of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), the Chief of Defense Staff, and the National Security Director.
