Spanish Political Leader Demands Clarification from Morocco
In a recent statement, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the leader of the People's Party in Spain, accused Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of covering up Morocco's alleged involvement in the migrant influx that occurred in July towards Ceuta. These claims emerged following purported leaks insinuating that Morocco played a significant role in the situation. During his visit to Ceuta, Feijóo met with the city’s president, Juan Jesús Vivas, where he asserted that the Spanish government was aware of Morocco's actions and chose to conceal them. He emphasized that this matter should not go unpunished and demanded that Morocco provide explanations regarding its involvement in coordinating the migrant flow.
Feijóo called for the immediate summoning of the Moroccan ambassador to Spain to clarify the actions of Moroccan authorities and to announce initial responsive measures. He also insisted on consulting the Spanish ambassador in Morocco to evaluate the most appropriate course of action moving forward. In his remarks, he held the Spanish government fully responsible for the migrant crisis, labeling it as ineffective and deceptive while dismissing warnings regarding the lack of regional protection and national security in Ceuta. He stated, "Spain has a failing government, but it is not a failing nation or state." This incident underscores the ongoing tension between Spain and Morocco regarding migration and diplomatic relations.
