On Wednesday, the skies over Marrakech transformed into an expansive venue for breathtaking aerial exhibitions, coinciding with the launch of the 8th Marrakech International Airshow. The Gulf aerobatic teams captivated onlookers with their precise maneuvers and aerial formations, showcasing a high level of professionalism in aircraft control. The event marked a significant milestone, emphasizing the growing international participation in the aviation industry.

The Impressive Debut of the Saudi Falcons

The Royal Saudi Air Force made a striking impression with the debut of the "Falcons" team, participating for the first time in the Marrakech International Airshow. They dazzled the audience with a performance using locally assembled "Hawk T165" aircraft. Saudi pilots exhibited advanced skills through a series of individual and group maneuvers, including rapid vertical ascents, which left behind colorful smoke trails in the sky. Their display included complex spiral movements executed with remarkable precision, followed by a synchronized return of the aircraft to their respective paths and formations.

The "Falcons" team serves as the media face of the Royal Saudi Air Force and was established at the initiative of the late Minister of Defense, Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The team’s mission is to highlight the capabilities of the Saudi Air Force and showcase the training and professionalism of its pilots. Since its inception, the team has participated in numerous airshows both within the Kingdom and internationally, garnering various accolades for their stunning performances.

The team consists of three crews that operate modified British "Hawk" aircraft, specifically adapted for aerial displays. These planes are painted in green and white, mirroring the colors of the Saudi flag, enhancing their visual impact during performances.

Emirati Knights Take to the Skies

The Gulf presence was not limited to Saudi Arabia, as the "Emirati Knights" team from the United Arab Emirates Air Force also delivered a highly acclaimed display. This performance involved seven aircraft, each representing one of the seven emirates of the UAE: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. The Emirati aircraft executed a series of rapid and precise maneuvers, including a crossing movement where two planes approached each other from opposite directions at high speed and low altitude, passing closely before continuing on their respective paths.

The planes left behind smoke trails in the colors of the UAE flag, transitioning to more complex formations, including one that simulated a bomb explosion. In this maneuver, the Chinese-made "L-15E" aircraft ascended rapidly and collectively before splitting in various directions, then regrouping into a straight line that highlighted the precision required in maintaining the correct distances between the pilots.

The "Emirati Knights" team was established in 2008 under the guidance of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. The team made its global debut at the Dubai Airshow in 2011, initially flying Italian "Aermacchi MB-339" aircraft before transitioning last year to modern Chinese aircraft equipped with a complete digital "Fly-by-Wire" control system, along with powerful engines that enable the execution of complex aerial maneuvers with high accuracy and safety.

The Emirati team's participation culminated in the "UAE DNA" maneuver, which combined geometric precision with synchronized movement. Five aircraft maintained level flight in a straight line while two others performed spiral movements around them, creating a design in the sky resembling the double helix of DNA. This added a remarkable display dimension to the Marrakech International Airshow, which, on its opening day, brought together the latest in aviation technology with aerial performances that captivated the audience in the Red City.
