Comprehensive Preparations for the Rainy Season

The Regional Multi-Service Company (SRM) Casablanca-Settat is actively advancing its preparations for the upcoming rainy season as part of its annual preventive maintenance program for liquid sanitation networks and infrastructures. These operations, which are conducted year-round, significantly intensify as the rainy season approaches to enhance the capacity and performance of the network, ensuring proper water drainage and minimizing the risk of overflow during periods of precipitation. Alongside strengthening human and material resources, this preventive strategy encompasses activities such as the dredging of networks, cleaning and maintenance of facilities, and addressing critical points across the region, all in coordination with local authorities.

Strengthened Annual Program Ahead of Rainfalls

From September 2025 to the end of August 2026, the efforts executed by the SRM Casablanca-Settat teams have resulted in the hydraulic dredging of over 3,167 kilometers of liquid sanitation networks, which represents 25% of the regional network's total length, a significant increase from the mere 6% achieved in 2024 when operations first began. To ensure the sustainability of this initiative, the regional company is committed to maintaining this dredging rate annually. During this period, more than 293,000 inspection chambers and stormwater collection facilities were manually cleaned, with approximately 38,200 tons of waste removed from the networks, equivalent to the load of over 1,300 semi-trailers. Additionally, over 70 coordinated hydraulic dredging campaigns have been executed by watershed.

In recent weeks, operations have escalated: within just five months (from April to the end of August 2026), more than 1,351 kilometers of networks were dredged, over 119,000 inspection chambers and facilities were cleaned, and nearly 16,800 tons of waste were evacuated, equivalent to the load of more than 580 semi-trailers. Over 36 collective campaigns have also been conducted by watershed during this timeframe. These interventions are being deployed across various prefectorial and provincial directions of SRM Casablanca-Settat, including regions such as Casa-Anfa-El Fida, Aïn Sebaâ-Hay Mohammadi, Aïn Chock-Hay Hassani, Ben M’Sick-Sidi Othmane, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Médiouna, Benslimane, Berrechid, El-Jadida, Sidi Bennour, and Settat.

The program also includes the maintenance of stormwater collection and drainage equipment. As part of this initiative, 36 critical points have been addressed through structural projects and targeted operational interventions. Over 134 maintenance and cleaning operations for stormwater basins have been conducted during the same period, and 20 strategic facilities, including pumping stations and intake structures, have undergone inspections and maintenance. Furthermore, SRM Casablanca-Settat ensures ongoing cleaning and monitoring of 168 stormwater discharge points.

The operations carried out on pumping stations involve about 1,800 hydraulic and manual dredging interventions, over 2,800 activities for unclogging screening baskets, 536 interventions to clear pumps, and more than 2,600 maintenance actions for electrical equipment, automation, and electromechanical installations. These efforts have resulted in the evacuation of approximately 17,500 tons of waste from pumping stations within five months.

During the rainy season, the intervention system mobilizes 685 personnel, including 476 SRM Casablanca-Settat employees and 209 subcontracted agents. This workforce comprises 59 specialized executives, 70 supervisory agents, and 556 field intervention agents responsible for maintenance and monitoring sensitive points. To strengthen the teams and enhance their skills, the regional company has recruited 95 qualified new agents and provided 8,784 hours of training. On the technical front, 203 intervention equipment items are activated, including 38 hydro-cleaning trucks, 13 mini-hydro-cleaners, 61 pumps and motor pumps, 21 generators, 20 lifting platforms, 29 other vehicles, and 21 supplementary equipment. The fleet has also been bolstered with the acquisition of five combined hydro-cleaners by the end of 2025, with 28 combined hydro-cleaners and 25 high-flow pumps currently being delivered.

The preparation by SRM Casablanca-Settat is further underpinned by regular monitoring of weather conditions, supported by an agreement with the General Directorate of Meteorology, enabling access to tailored forecasts. This framework is supplemented by 27 rain gauges distributed throughout the regional territory.

The operational organization relies on several complementary structures: the Crisis Management Center, responsible for central management of exceptional situations, crisis cells established in each provincial and prefectorial direction, the Central Control Office (BCC) for network supervision and remote management of key facilities, Coordinated Operations Management (GCO) for programming and assigning field interventions, and the Customer Relations Center (CRC) for communication with clients.

“Today, all our human and material resources are mobilized and positioned to cover sensitive points and intervene as needed. This mobilization is based on an organization adapted to various situations and close coordination with local authorities as well as our 12 provincial and prefectorial directions,” asserts Kamal Gragai, Director of Liquid Sanitation Operations at SRM Casablanca-Settat. This intensified and reinforced annual program in anticipation of the rains reflects SRM Casablanca-Settat's commitment to continue its preventive efforts and enhance its intervention capabilities to best serve the residents of the region.
