Engaging the Community: SRM Casablanca-Settat's Initiative

In a proactive effort to foster dialogue with various stakeholders, the Regional Multiservices Company of Casablanca-Settat (SRM-CS) has opened its doors to the public, including students, researchers, elected officials, associations, and media representatives. This initiative aims to showcase its facilities and significant structural projects that are vital to the region's development.

On May 19, 2026, SRM-CS organized a field visit to the wastewater treatment plant in Mediouna, hosting around fifty students from the Hassania School of Public Works in Casablanca. This visit was specifically focused on the wastewater treatment cycle and the innovative methods of wastewater reuse.

According to Mohamed Hajraoui, head of the purification service at SRM Casablanca-Settat, this initiative is designed to familiarize students with the company’s operations, particularly in the water and sanitation sectors. During this educational visit, Hajraoui stated, “The Mediouna treatment plant is a strategic facility within the wastewater sanitation system of the region.”

Innovative Wastewater Treatment Technology

The Mediouna facility employs a three-stage treatment process: a preliminary stage that removes major pollutants and impurities, followed by biological treatment to eliminate fine particles and microscopic contaminants, and finally, a tertiary treatment involving micromembranes. This cutting-edge technology, which is the first of its kind in North Africa, enables the production of high-quality treated water that can be reused for irrigation of green spaces in Mediouna and the greater Casablanca area.

The visit also served as an opportunity to present the ongoing expansion project led by the Regional Multiservices Company, which aims to support urban growth and manage the increasing volume of wastewater directed to the treatment plant.

These educational visits play a crucial role in highlighting the concrete actions taken by the Regional Multiservices Company of Casablanca-Settat to protect the environment and ensure sustainable water resource management, particularly in the context of the water stress that our country is currently experiencing.
