Investment Agreement Enhances Nador West Med Terminal
Marsa Maroc, a key player in Morocco's port management sector, has recently entered into a significant partnership with Terminal Investment Limited (TIL). This collaborative agreement marks TIL's entry into the subsidiary that holds the concession for the container terminal located at the Nador West Med port. The agreement is poised to reshape the operational landscape of this critical infrastructure, pending approval from the relevant authorities.
Under the terms of the agreement, the ownership structure of the subsidiary responsible for the terminal's concession will see TIL acquiring 50% minus one share of the capital, while Marsa Maroc will retain 50% plus one share, granting it majority voting rights. This strategic move is expected to bolster the operational capacity and efficiency of the terminal, which has been designated as a vital node in Morocco's maritime and trade infrastructure.
Marsa Maroc initially secured the concession contract for the Nador West Med container terminal in June 2024. The terminal is designed to accommodate a total of 3.4 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU) at full capacity, featuring a quay length of 1,520 meters and a depth of 18 meters, spread across an expansive 70 hectares of yard space. The first phase of this new terminal is scheduled to commence operations in early 2027, marking a significant milestone in Morocco's strategic plan for port development.
As Marsa Maroc continues to implement its strategic plan aimed at enhancing port capacities and services by 2030, this partnership with TIL stands as a testament to the commitment towards modernizing and expanding Morocco's port facilities, thus fostering economic growth and facilitating international trade.
