During a recent press briefing, Morocco's Foreign Minister, Mr. Bourita, highlighted the significance of the inaugural visit of Côte d'Ivoire's Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Nialé Kaba, to the Kingdom. He characterized the discussions as 'highly fruitful,' emphasizing the robust bilateral relationship that has been nurtured through numerous royal visits. These engagements have culminated in the establishment of nearly 150 bilateral agreements and the initiation of key projects across various sectors including industry, real estate, infrastructure, and security. Mr. Bourita noted that Côte d'Ivoire has emerged as the 'leading destination for Moroccan private-sector investments in Africa,' reflecting the depth and dynamism of Moroccan-Ivorian relations, which stand out as one of the most diversified and effective partnerships on the continent.
The dialogue between the two nations centered on strategies to invigorate multiple cooperation frameworks. This included preparations for the upcoming session of the Joint Grand Commission, which is set to convene in Côte d'Ivoire, and enhancing the Moroccan-Ivorian Economic Impetus Group, which integrates both public and private sector entities from each country. Mr. Bourita acknowledged Côte d'Ivoire's crucial role in various strategic royal initiatives, particularly the Atlantic Africa Gas Pipeline project, which has progressed significantly following the endorsement of the intergovernmental agreement by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leaders, along with the Atlantic African States Process.
In a significant move to foster educational ties, the minister announced an increase in scholarships awarded to Ivorian students in Morocco, raising the number from 150 to 200 starting the next academic year. This initiative aims to enhance both their living conditions and educational opportunities. The discussions also addressed a range of challenges that Africa faces in security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability, as well as strategies to bolster collaborative African efforts and safeguard the continent’s interests in regional and international arenas. Mr. Bourita expressed gratitude towards Côte d'Ivoire for its steadfast support regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue, acknowledging the country as a 'partner and ally' in this matter. Furthermore, he extended congratulations to Côte d'Ivoire on its successful electoral processes, viewing them as a reinforcement of the nation’s stability and development under President Alassane Ouattara's leadership.
This visit thus served as a pivotal opportunity to reflect on the future trajectory of Moroccan-Ivorian relations, aligning with the strategic directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Alassane Ouattara.
