Strengthening Franco-Moroccan Military Ties: A Significant Meeting in Rabat

High-Level Meeting Between Morocco and France

On the directives of King Mohammed VI, the Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), Abdeltif Loudyi, the Minister Delegate to the Head of the Moroccan Government responsible for National Defense Administration, welcomed French Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans, Catherine Vautrin, this Thursday in Rabat. This meeting took place in the presence of a senior military general, the Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone. Minister Vautrin was part of a large delegation led by French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, who is currently undertaking a working visit to Morocco, coinciding with the 15th high-level Morocco-France meeting aimed at strengthening and diversifying bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

Key Agreements and Discussions

During this significant gathering, both parties engaged in the signing of a technical arrangement and a memorandum concerning bilateral cooperation in the defense industry, as noted in a statement from the National Defense Administration. In addition to these agreements, the two officials discussed various bilateral and regional issues, focusing on avenues to enhance and diversify military cooperation between Morocco and France. They expressed a mutual ambition to solidify these relationships through the implementation of legal instruments signed during the fifteenth high-level meeting.

This high-level meeting saw the participation of twenty-two Moroccan and French ministers and was co-chaired by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and his French counterpart, Sébastien Lecornu. The meeting culminated in the signing of eleven cooperation agreements that span a wide range of sectors, from the establishment of a Regional Express Network (RER) line in Rabat to water resources management and decentralization initiatives.

The 15th high-level Morocco-France meeting occurs in a context marked by an exceptional partnership and the strengthening of political ties between Morocco and France, reflecting a historic evolution in France's position through its official support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara and its recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over all its southern provinces.
