Enhancing Stability through Franco-Moroccan Collaboration
In light of the ongoing transformations occurring globally, the reinforced exceptional partnership between Morocco and France stands out as a powerful tool aimed at projecting stability and fostering concrete solutions. This statement was made by Barrot during a joint press conference following discussions with Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Residents Abroad. Their meeting took place on the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in the Francophone Environment. The Franco-Moroccan relations are firmly established as a "model of exception," characterized by fruitful cooperation across various fields, including industry, energy, security, defense, culture, and the digital sector, all serving the interests of both nations. Barrot emphasized that both countries are collaboratively working to build future projects for Africa and centered around Africa.
Morocco is recognized as France's principal economic partner in Africa and serves as a vital logistical, energy, and financial hub. Celebrating the momentum of Franco-Moroccan cooperation, Barrot highlighted that both nations have chosen to explore new areas of collaboration to further enhance their "unique" bilateral relations. He noted that significant progress has been made since President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to the Kingdom in 2024. During this visit, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the French President established a clear and ambitious roadmap, which they continue to implement in order to sustain the growing momentum of their partnership.
France’s Support for Morocco’s Development Efforts
Barrot also praised the "positive dynamics" surrounding the Moroccan Sahara issue, reiterating France's support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as the only basis for a "just, durable, and negotiated" political solution. He reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Morocco's significant efforts to develop these regions, recalling that France has increased its consular presence and cultural activities, including the opening of a visa application management center and the establishment of a French Alliance in Laayún. In relation to the Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in the Francophone domain, Barrot emphasized that this event serves as a new demonstration of what Morocco and France can achieve together to promote effective multilateralism. Additionally, he noted that this conference illustrates France’s ambition to forge a renewed and updated partnership with the African continent, as well as its willingness to collaborate closely with the Kingdom.
