Government Initiatives to Enhance Primary Healthcare
On a significant day for the Moroccan healthcare system, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, and several local stakeholders, marked the completion of a pivotal initiative aimed at upgrading primary healthcare institutions across the nation. This initiative includes the reconstruction, modernization, and equipping of 1,400 health centers throughout various provinces of Morocco. The inauguration of services at the Ait Ourir proximity hospital and the second-level rural health center in Tazart took place in the Al-Haouz region, representing a major step towards enhancing healthcare accessibility for citizens.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Akhannouch emphasized that the launch of these facilities aligns with the goal of strengthening the national healthcare framework and implementing royal directives aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure and services. The initiative is designed to bring healthcare closer to citizens, particularly in remote areas, while simultaneously supporting the training of healthcare personnel to enhance the quality of medical treatment and ensure equitable access to healthcare services.
Details of the New Healthcare Facilities
The newly constructed Ait Ourir proximity hospital spans over 30,000 square meters and boasts a capacity of 45 beds, with a total investment of 85 million dirhams. This facility will provide essential services including obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, cardiology, dentistry, and general surgery, as well as radiology, laboratory analyses, and inpatient care. The hospital aims to serve a population of 278,000 residents across 16 local communities.
This healthcare center is equipped with multiple amenities such as a reception area, waiting room, consultation rooms, treatment and vaccination rooms, a primary examination and diagnosis area, a mother and child health unit, a fully-equipped delivery room with a dedicated neonatal care space, a pharmacy, and additional support facilities for sterilization, storage, cleanliness, and other health-related needs. Both the Ait Ourir hospital and the Tazart health center are equipped with modern biomedical equipment to ensure the delivery of high-quality services to patients.
The government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services is evident, as this initiative not only aims to alleviate the pressures faced by larger hospitals but also significantly improves the quality of healthcare available to citizens, particularly in rural areas. The investment in healthcare is ultimately an investment in human capital, reflecting the government's dedication to social development and equitable healthcare accessibility. With these new facilities, the government aims to address long-standing challenges within the healthcare sector and foster a more robust and responsive healthcare system that prioritizes the needs of all citizens, especially those in remote regions.
