Vietnam Veterans Strengthen Bonds with South Korea and Morocco
From September 6 to 14, 2026, a delegation from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association, led by Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, visited South Korea and Morocco at the invitation of the Korean Veterans Association and the Moroccan Veterans Association. This visit marked a significant advancement in the friendly relations and collaboration between the Vietnam Veterans Association and their counterparts in Korea and Morocco. During their visit, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Chairman Kim Jin-tae and his team at the Seoul Airport, where they expressed their enthusiasm for this gathering of friends united by a shared history of solidarity and cooperation.
Fostering Educational Opportunities and Job Support for Veterans
In South Korea, General Be Xuan Truong conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception and expressed his admiration for the country’s development. He highlighted the importance of exchanging ideas to foster future cooperation. The Korean Veterans Association, along with several local businesses, proposed the establishment of a long-term welfare infrastructure for Vietnamese veterans, emphasizing the need for sustainable funding models. They also suggested enhancing collaboration with medical institutions, including the Medical Center in Hanoi, to facilitate Korean language courses and vocational training tailored to veterans. Furthermore, they envisioned connecting Vietnamese veterans with prominent Korean companies across various sectors to support elderly care initiatives and to provide assistance in job placements upon their return to Vietnam.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Seoul Vocational Training Center, which caters to a diverse range of training needs and boasts an impressive employment rate for graduates. General Be Xuan Truong commended the center’s outstanding achievements and underscored its role in equipping veterans and their children with essential skills for the job market. The center's director announced that they would waive tuition fees for veterans and provide financial assistance for textbooks and living expenses, demonstrating a commitment to supporting these individuals in their educational pursuits.
The delegation also met with Park Deok-heum, Vice President of the Korean National Assembly, who emphasized that the outcomes of their visit symbolized a tangible step towards deepening the friendship and cooperation between the two nations, paving the way for a comprehensive strategic partnership.
In Morocco, the discussions centered on the preservation of history and education, vital for the development of both nations. General Be Xuan Truong highlighted the significance of imparting historical knowledge and traditions to the younger generation, ensuring that they appreciate their heritage. Dr. El Mostafa Elktiri, Chairman of the Moroccan Veterans Association, shared his admiration for Vietnam and its leaders, reflecting on the historical connections between Morocco and Vietnam dating back to 1946. He noted that many young Moroccans fought alongside the Vietnamese during the colonial wars, emphasizing the deep-rooted ties and mutual respect shared between the two countries.
The extraordinary ambassador of Vietnam to Morocco, Le Kim Quy, participated in the discussions and praised the contributions of veterans to national liberation and defense. He reiterated the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic relationships built on mutual respect and cooperation, exemplifying the ongoing commitment to enhancing relations between Vietnam and Morocco.
