Casablanca and La Spezia Ports Enhance Collaboration
In a significant move aimed at optimizing maritime operations, the port of Casablanca, in collaboration with the Port of La Spezia, has embarked on an innovative initiative as part of the National Ports Agency's innovation program and the European FENIX program. This initiative focuses on developing new technological solutions that will streamline the flow of goods and establish an international logistics corridor. The main goal of this collaboration is to enhance and simplify import/export procedures between the ports operated by the National Ports Agency (ANP) and those in the European Union, as stated in a joint communiqué from the involved parties.
This ambitious project is centered around the standardization of electronic exchanges among customs authorities, control agencies, handling operators, and relevant authorities, all adhering to international standards through the PORTNET single window for foreign trade. Additionally, it aims to ensure mutual recognition of control formalities while leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT). It was further noted that the initial phase of the pilot project related to the International Fast & Secure Trade Lane has recently commenced. This phase focuses on the preliminary exchange of logistical data among stakeholders involved in the logistics corridor between Italy and Morocco, as well as ensuring interoperability between the information systems at the ports of Casablanca and La Spezia.
Looking ahead, the second phase of the project will facilitate the exchange of documents related to customs controls for goods arriving from La Spezia, including the implementation of electronic seals on containers. Currently, this first phase is being launched at the port of Casablanca in coordination with various partners. The project is being implemented under a memorandum of understanding signed between the National Ports Agency (ANP), PORTNET, and the Eastern Ligurian Sea Port System Authority, which aims to simplify and enhance the flow of information through the use of IoT, while also progressively harmonizing and digitizing the documentary flows among the various stakeholders involved. Moreover, it is set to incorporate innovative tools such as Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence to further enhance operational efficiency.
